When you think of exercise, do you think of going to the gym and running? That's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of that. There are so many other ways to exercise though besides lifting weights and running. According to the American Heart Association, the most common types of fitness is stretching, walking, aerobic endurance, balance, yoga, and strength training. Some of these exercises are also good to help you relax, feel refreshed, and also improve flexibility. I never really thought about yoga or just stretching as being in the fitness category. By doing these exercises though, it can help you stretch out your muscles for when you do a more laboring workout. Stretching also helps you from not injuring yourself while working out. Stretch before and after each workout!!

When I think of exercise, i always instantly think of the gym. But if someone were to ask me about ways i exercise, i would say I dance or I walk a lot. My favorite way to exercise is by dancing because you work so many different muscles, you build up your endurance and it helps me relax. I like how you expressed that stretching is important because it is one of the best things for your body. I also really liked the link you attached!
ReplyDeleteStretching does help you feel more relaxed. Exercising is just o tiring but afterwards you feel real good. When I think about exercising, I think about the treadmill and lifting weights but I never seen yoga as an exercise so that is something new that I learned.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of exercise I automatically think of the gym and running or going on the elliptical. But then whenever I think of what I enjoy doing such as, paying any sport, going for a walk, or stretching I remember that exercise is being active and making your body work. You're doing more exercise when you stretch or just go for walk than sitting on the couch.
ReplyDeleteI honestly have been promising myself I will exercise more because obesity and CVD run in my family. I dread going to the gym, IDK why lol.. but now that I read this post, I know I have alternatives and I don't have to go to the gym. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI been telling myself for two weeks that I was going to exercise , but I fail at doing that. Its like once I come home from school and get off work I have no energy to do anything , but shower and sleep, I know I need to do better by this.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head when you stated that most of us think of exercising has lifting weights and running because that is all I think about when I think of exercising. But it's nice to know that they're other things that can be done and still be considered exercising. Especially for individuals who may not be able to lift weights and run a lot. For example, my mom has Chronic Asthma and she can't run because of it but now after reading your blog I can give her some more suggestions that may work for her. Great post!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, earlier this year I had a month membership to this ritzy yoga studio in Champaign. I was nervous about going but heard it would benefit my back pain. Once I started going regularly, I was obsessed and felt so much better. I could actually stretch and not feel my muscles pulling and in pain. I think yoga is a great way to get some fitness in. Hot yoga is amazing by the way!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that there are so many different way to exercise. Some are a lot easier than others which is nice, if you're just starting out! It's also interesting how the more exercise you do, the easier the other kinds of exercise will be.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people do not realize that there are so many different ways to stay active. Exercising at first is a pain in the butt, but the more you do it the easier it gets.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time getting myself to the gym, so I think these exercises could most definitely help me! I sometimes think people forget how easily exercise can be accomplished. Stay active and stay healthier!
